This is one of the most common question pet owners ask. Some think weekly, while others think frequent bathing will damage skin. What is the correct answer?

Is frequent bathing harmful?

In the past shampoo was pretty harsh, now professional grooming products are formulated specifically for a dog's skin needs. With awareness of the pets specific needs, regular bathing supports skin health.

Breed & Coat suggestions . . .

  • SHORT COAT (Labrador, pit bull) typically 4-8 weeks

  • LONG or CURLY COAT (poodle, doodle, terrier, maltese) 3-4 weeks

  • DOG WITH UNDERCOAT (husky, shepherd )may require more frequent care

Dirty Dog or Princess

When exposed to mud, irritants, or pollution a full bath is necessary. Dirt, dust, and irritants can remain on the skin causing irritation, inflammation, and itching, potentially leading to infection, trauma an much more serious skin conditions.

Bathing isn't just about smell - it's about skin health

Washing too rarely can be as problematic as washing too often. Observe your dog's coat and skin. If you notice oiliness, odor, or itching it's probably time for a bath. Regular, balanced grooming keeps the coat shiny and the skin healthy.

When to bathe more often

  • For skin conditions (diagnosed by a veterinarian)

  • Dry climate creating dry, flaky skin

  • Heavy shedding periods

  • After muddy outdoor activities

  • Exposure to irritants or a polluted environment

Use The Right Product for your dogs specific needs

NEVER use human shampoo on dogs - their skin pH is different. This can lead to dryness and flaking.

Choose

  • Coat-type shampoo and conditioner

  • Sensitive skin products

  • Medicated or skin soothing products (ask your pet stylist)

  • With severe allergies or prolonged skin conditions see your vet for specific product use.
